Fair Play from Evan Lorentz (01/1999)

See picture of Fair Play.

It seeds, and it absolutely may not be nullified. If you're looking for THE way to stop mission thieves, look no farther than Fair Play. There are a few restrictions. Universal missions are not protected, nor are missions worth 40 points or better. And if your opponent tried to seed a copy of the mission after you had already placed yours... well, fair is fair.

But balance those minor handicaps with the most valuable feature of this event, its Hidden Agenda icon. Because it blocks your opponent from solving your mission, it may be revealed as a valid response to "undo" any attempt to do so. In other words, you can wait for your thieving opponent to overcome all the dilemmas seeded at one of your missions, then reveal Fair Play. No points for them; meanwhile, they've "graciously" cleared out all the dilemmas, leaving a risk-free mission for you!

Combos:

  • Fair Play + Post Garrison: Want to force your opponent into a battle? Use Fair Play to keep them from solving your missions, and then Post Garrisons at as many of theirs as you can. They'll have to pick a fight with you just to get a chance at scoring points!
  • Fair Play + planet missions all below 35 points: The ultimate in thief protection. Neither non-Borg nor Borg players will be able to get your planet missions. (And you could always use Assign Mission Specialists to make up for your modest choices.)
