Card Extra

Scepter of the Grand Nagus from Evan Lorentz (12/1999)

See picture of Scepter of the Grand Nagus.

You can play your Nagus, you can have a fistful of Rules of Acquisition, but you're not truly wheelin' and dealin' until you've got this Equipment card in play. With the Scepter, your Nagus gains three important abilities. First, he allows one card with the Rules of Acquisition icon to play for free each turn. Suddenly the free advice of the 59th Rule really is free for you to offer. Sucking up to the boss (33rd Rule), waging war (34th Rule), stepping on employees (211th Rule) and more are all now free mechanics for your Ferengi deck to exploit. What's more, with the second benefit the Scepter provides, all of those Rules cards in play at the Nagus' location are immune to nullification by your opponent. Nearly all of those cards play on a personnel, and the rest play at a location in some way or another - meaning whatever strategy you have planned can be made safe from the wrath of Kevin Uxbridge.

Last, but not least, your Nagus can use the Scepter to knock someone over the head in personnel battle. Given the chronically weak strength of the various Nagus personnel, this guaranteed stun effect will save you not only from strong favorites like Lore and the Sisters of Duras, but from embarassing defeats at the hands of weaklings like Samuel Clemens, Ba’el, or (Prophets forbid) Kai Opaka.

Combos:

  • Scepter of the Grand Nagus + The Ferengi Rules of Acquisition: Not only does this give you the ultimate in utility for your Rules of Acquisition, but the Scepter protects the book from Disruptor Overload.
  • Scepter of the Grand Nagus + 6th Rule of Acquisition + Tower of Commerce: Load your deck with a bunch of Greedy and Treacherous V.I.P. and CIVILIAN personnel that mention each other in their lore, and you've got a serious card drawing machine. The personnel reports for free to the headquarters, the Rule plays for free to the Scepter, and then you get the benefit of the 6th Rule all without using your card play.
  • Scepter of the Grand Nagus + Grand Nagus Gint: The weakest of all the Grand Naguses (Nagi?), you can add insult to injury by stunning an adversary in a battle with a STRENGTH 1 personnel.
