Frool from Neil Kirby (01/12/2000)

See picture of Frool.

At first sight Frool is a simple, honest (ahem) Ferengi waiter, but look a little deeper and he becomes a deep and complex character. Let's skim the surface - Greed is a fairly routine skill among the Ferengi, Greedy CIVILIANs aren't too rare, but Youth is somewhat unusual skill, particularly for a universal character. CUNNING of 5 means that you'd better check that he brought the right order, INTEGRITY of 4 means that you'd better check the bill, and a STRENGTH of 4 means that you can pick a fight with him - or can you?? More on that later.

One of Frool's virtues is that he can be reported free to both the Ferengi Trading Post or Quark’s Bar. In addition you can use Ferengi Conference on your Nagus (Krax is good here as he has Youth) to download 3 more Frools to him. That's a lot of cheap waiters, but what are they good for? A quick use is to run them (with Krax) into Ooby Dooby to draw extra cards (don't overstock on Frools, or all you'll end up drawing is more waiters!). Then what? Well, you can keep them in Quark's Bar where they are relatively safe from attack - hit this waiter and it costs you a card. Couple that with the 211th Rule of Acquisition to deter your opponent from playing cards on your turn, or the 47th Rule of Acquisition to dispense dress compliments and dispatch your opponent's highly skilled personnel back to his draw deck. Very annoying.

If Frools decide to leave the comfort of home, there are a number of interesting missions that they can attempt. With Arandis, Frool can complete Risa Shore Leave, and together they can Deliver Supplies with Krunk and the Jovis. With Bribery (Frool has Greed) and a bit of latinum, multiple Frools can be used to solve Distress Mission and Investigate Legend - feel free to discard them as Ferengi waiters are cheap and easy to come by. To help guard against Balancing Act, round out your deck with Acquire Illicit Explosives and FGC-47 Research and the appropriate skills.

So don't forget to tip Frool well - he's an interesting character who will give you good service if you treat him well.

Combos:

  • Krax + Frools + Ferengi Conference: Quick Ooby Dooby bait.
  • Frool + Arandis + Risa Shore Leave: A free break for a hard-working waiter.
  • Frools + 211th Rule of Acquisition + Quark's Bar: You want to play an interrupt on my turn? Did I have 5 waiters or 6? In all the excitement I lost count. The question is "do you feel lucky, punk?"
  • Frool + your opponent's Garak + 47th Rule of Acquisition: "My, you look good. Where'd you go?"
